ABOUT US
- It is a non-governmental, non-religious, non-political, non-ethnic organisation. It is just a heart of the mothers for peace and against war”.
- On the 18th of November 1987 it was legally registered under the registration no. 251 according to the Registration Law of Companies and Non-Governmental Organisations in Sudan. It has developed quickly into a National organisation with many members and friends.
- 1999, on the 17th of August, it was registered in the United Kingdom as a Charity Organization under the registration no. 1077050. It takes a firm stand against all forms of human rights abuses. In this aspect it works jointly with UN Human Rights High Commission Geneva, Africa Watch-New York, Amnesty International London, in addition to many other institutions including Parliamentary Human Rights Committees.
- It calls for immediate stoppage of war and invites to peaceful solutions, reconciliation and rebuilding of good relationships in the community and creating a better future for the new generation.
- The Aim and Key Functions of SMP:
- SMP has managed to maintain a range and variety of services to the women of the community by:
- The advancement of education and relief of poverty of refugee women especially Sudanese women by the provision of seminars, advice, assistance, representation, consultation and interpretation.
- Providing services in matters such as immigration, welfare benefits health, housing, training and employment.
- Assisting in relieving persons who are in need by reason of sickness and distress.
- By provision of facilities for recreations and leisure time in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving the conditions of life of those persons for whom the facilities are provided.
- . SMP has fulfilled these key aims and objectives through the Youth project, Mother club and Scarman Trust project, which was awarded to the organization by Championship. Membership of SMP is open to all who subscribe to its general aims.
- During her work in 1987 as an under Secretary of the ministry of Peace in Sudan, the chairperson Khadiga Hussein found out that it is significant to involve the community, specially the mothers, in the call for Peace. She was looking for a special roll of women in Peace building.
- The aim of the organisation was to provide help and support for those who were displaced by civil war in Sudan specially children, mothers and elderly and most importantly to promote peace initiative.
- The organisation in a short period of time gained wide recognition. For instance, it had associated membership of mothers from different part of the world notably, Princess Wijdan Ali of Jordan, Bonnie Anderson (USA), Jane Campbell of the UNICEF, Mrs Shanker of India.
- The organisation was honoured by a visit from Mother Teresa of India, Bridged Bordeaux of the UNICEF, General Obasangue of Nigeria.
